Introducing Stew:

STEW is an artist led gallery and studio space in the centre of Norwich, England.

The name is derived from the shared ideal of food playing a central role in the space and analogous to the diverse practices within the building. The earliest board meetings were based around cooking, eating, discussion and decision making and this holds true within the space with the installation of a kitchen and communal eating area. This allows us to hold discussion around the dinner table on what is happening in the space and beyond.

STEW is meant to be inclusive in the best possible sense. Rents are as low as possible for studios and costs for hiring the gallery and flexible workspace are equally as affordable. As a non-profit voluntary led organisation we reinvest all surplus monies into materials, projects and improvements for the gallery, workspace and studios and of course food funds.

Within the walls of STEW there is a large gallery space and workshop that are separately rentable, as well as a large communal studio and several private studio spaces. The gallery space is over 2000 sq ft of floor space with constructed white walls for hanging. The workspace is meant for those who have need of a temporary larger space or for running arts workshops with other practitioners or the public. The workspace is over 650ft sq feet of floor space.

Beyond these spaces there are future plans for a rentable screen-printing workshop, a digital media workshop and small library.
